What do you all think about ATI's attempt to compete in the chipset wars between NVIDIA, VIA & SIS ?

It sucks. Go to MSI's home page and look at their ATI Express 200 motherboard. It doesn't even look like it's standard ATX size... -_-

The ATI chipset mobo for MSI is a prototype picture of the motherboard. It won't look like that.

I hear that the new ATI chipset will be the best overclocking chipset to date. But I would like to see that first hand before I make any purchasing decisions.

I don't know about the ATI mobo. They are taking too long to release it. And by the time it comes out, the nForce 4 Ultra would of sold many boards.

Like I said. I want to see an over clocking history on it first. I won?t buy a board I can?t over clock on.

Oh my, not again! I still think nVidia will rule in the chipset wars.

Go NFORCE 4 Ultra & SLI!

Anyways, check out this benchmark:
MSI K8N Neo2 (nForce 3) vs. ATI Bullhead (ATI's Xpress 200)

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2269&p=9

The nForce 3 paws in half the benchmarks. In the ones which the ATI is leading, is only by a few. The Xpress 200 seems to be contending against nForce 3? Then, nForce 4 will definitely beat it.

ATI's Bullhead (ATI's Xpress 200) is WAY in the Beta stages.

And there are a lot of reviews having the ATI Bullhead (ATI's Xpress 200) out perform the nForce 4 Ultra.

I am not trying to be an nVidia fan-boy because I am not. I just want what is best. No one can predict how good the Bullhead will be until it is finally released.

not quite what i had in mind. You see i need to know how maney people have been able to over clock on the board and how far they have been able to over clock. If its only few and the best of the best then i would say the board is not user friendly and not likly to be over clocked by most.

ATI's SLI to work without connector. ATI'S WAY OF doing SLI called AMR (ATI Multi Rendering).
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=20457

Quote:
ATI found a way to make its SLI work without this interconnection. In ATI's case, whenever it makes its SLI ready, you will just plug two graphic cards in motherboard powered with ATI chipset and it will all work without interconnection PCB or cable.

ATI Radeon Xpress 200
is highly overlookable

Josh, you may want to read about this OC'ing article. It relates to the X850 XT PE. :)

Just handled my first ATI Xpress 200 mobo, it was MSI's RS480 with IGP,  the on board video does a nice job of staying seperate from the rest of the chipset, i threw in a spare 800XT i had laying around, and it didn't seem to be bogged down by the RS480 chipset like i thought it might.  unfortunately, i did hear reports that the USB 2.0 was a bit slow, and indeed they should call it USB 1.7.. though the MSI mobo doesnt have much in the way of overclocking option in the bios.., it looks like ATI/MSI may have a big winner in the OEM market with these uATX mobos, HP has ordered production on this same board design, you will notice the solder points for HP's sister board connection on all MSI mobos...  this is an excellent uATX board for the money you pay for it.  and this first release of boards should put a little R&D funding for ATI's next chipset release. (paid $129.89cdn for mine.)

looking forward to getting my hands on Sappire's/powercolor, Jetways, ecs, eqs, and gigabytes versions soon.  and maybe one day asus's offer too, however i suspect they may cancel the board in favour of the RX/RS482 chipset with AMR.
and am very iterested in the ULI southbridge combination with HD sound.
