Since when did computers become the \"Geek's Lamborghini\"?
Why on earth would I want to spend a ton of money for someone to see my platters and read-write arm moving back and forth?
I can understand having a nice looking case, it's exposed and everyone can see it, but internal hardware? I saw this fad developing back in the late 90's when neon lights were introduced inside computers with a window in the side of the case. I thought it was pretty silly then and I still do now. Personally modded cases are fine, like Greg's, but come on...I think it's rediculous to spend so much more money because a drive has a special window to see the innards of the part working. Ok, a harddrive is interesting to watch for what? maybe 5 minutes and then it's boring, it does the same thing. Platters spin, read-write arm moves back and forth. What more is there to see?
I'd rather save money by getting the cheaper non-windowed drive and then use the extra money on RAM, etc.
Anyway, again, sorry to bump an old thread, I know you hate that Predator.
Yeah, it's always pretty cool to watch, for about 5 minutes.
I'm just saying that the price hike doesn't justify the 'entertainment value' in my mind. The Military has hardware that's ruggedized and painted OD green that has windows so you can see everthing working for the purpose of visual troubleshooting. It's meant for speedy fixing, maybe that's why it doesn't impress me because for over four years I watched things like this for hours at a time.
