OK I went on IE today and I found my home page was different and I had an extra search toolbar put in. I had consistent pop-ups when I used the extra search toolbar. Am I attacked by spyware?

Yes, this is what is called a browser hijack.

Download Ad-aware SE Personal: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Person...tml?tag=lst-0-2

Microsoft Antispyware:
http://www.download.com/Microsoft-Windows-...tml?tag=lst-0-1

Use both of those to remove all your spyware.

And consider trying another browser such as Firefox, Mozilla Suite, or Opera.

I had all of them. Yeah I got so pissed I threw away IE. Even though I used Firefox alot I still don't want my sister using IE with pop-ups. I scanned my computer a bagillion times.  The spyware got better and I am putting my firewall settings on high. That should fix it, right?

When a bar loads itself onto your comp, you might need to do more than adware scan.  Usually, adware scan won't take care of it.  So, what I'd do is google \"how to get rid of *\" (* being the name of the search bar).  Usually, there's a few pages just for getting rid of those search toolbars.

It is not wise to completely kill Internet Explorer. Sometimes, you will need it for setting up internet connections, and besides, it is integrated into the OS. Last time I uninstalled IE, some other parts of Windows stopped functioning properly.

Don't forget about spybot...! dang. The combination of firefox, ad aware and spybot is the best way to secure your comp. Don't forget to activate teatimer with spybot.

And stay away from w4rez...

Reviews lately have shown that Spybot has lost its old touch. Although it is still a good program, I would recommend Microsoft Antispyware.

My ad-aware does too, but those are tracking cookies, and are not that much of a big deal.
